For the last two decades I have been creating Em's Gems®, a whimsical line of jewelry from caneworked polymer clay.
For as long as I can remember, I have loved the art of creation. I have loved beads and creating one-of-a-kind jewelry from them. After I graduated from college, I started making jewelry in my spare time. Back then, I hadn't discovered my current passion.
When I found caneworking with polymer clay a year later, it was love at first touch! My husband, John, has encouraged me every step of my journey. Since then I've developed a whimsical eye for nature, animals, faces, abstract and holiday designs. We make beads, earrings, pins, bracelets, beaded watch bands and pens.
God has gifted me this talent, and I am grateful for it every day.
I am inspired by everything around me: the shape of a stone, the turn of a leaf, the pattern on a twig.
Even as a child, I adored beads and their infinite design possibilities. I would rework " trash" found at garage sales into new-found " treasures" for family and friends.
I am fortunate that I am surrounded by encouraging people. My parents, George and Loretta enabled my early creative habits and have always let me explore my creativity. My mom first coined my business name!
My husband, John gives me the time I need to pursue this art and pushes me to creat intricate designs. He builds my booth, helps me haul it around and was the one who entered me into my first art show many years ago.
The beads are made one at a time by me from polymer clay with an art form called caneworking. Only the metal findings and seed beads used in our our jewelry are purchased. We use the best components that we can find.
All of our pierced earrings and backs are Surgical Steel, which most folks can tolerate. Email Em with metal allergy questions.
